Sombrero Galaxy
A Peculiar Galaxy in the Virgo Constellation

Description
The Sombrero Galaxy is a galaxy of peculiar structure, located some 31 million light years away from the Earth. The light you see in this image is the aggregation of some 100 billion stars that began their journey long before the first humans even walked the Earth. At it's heart lies a supermassive black hole a whopping 1 billion times the mass of the Sun, which makes it the closest billion solar mass black hole to the Earth. The structure of the Sombrero Galaxy is also rather peculiar, with a main structure similar to a giant elliptical galaxy, but yet sporting a massive dust ring which gives it its characteristic look.
