HaLRGB_v2_annotated_compressed.jpg

Description

The North America (left) and Pelican (bottom right) Nebulae are emission nebulae in the constellation of Cygnus, named after its resemblance to the continent of North America and a Pelican respectively. Both regions are part of the same nebula complex and are regions of active star formation, primarily forming low to medium mass stars just like the Sun.

Although these nebulae emit strongly in red Hydrogen Alpha, this true colour image shows the subtle variations in tone across the object.
